Kitty Pryde
Name: Katherine "Kitty" Pryde
Codename: Shadowcat
Team: The X-Men
Mutant Power: Corporal intangibility
Marvel Description: Like a cat slinking through shadows, the youngest -- and perkiest -- X-Man can slide through solid matter! She does so by canceling out the space between the atoms of the object through which she's "phasing." Her other abilities include walking on air and phasing other people through matter with her. Also, when Kitty passes through a machine, she is able to stop its internal mechanisms.
Kitty Pryde, aka Shadowcat, arrived in Bayville in the same episode as Lance - The X-Impulse. Her powers came as a shock to her as she first had a nightmare in which she was falling through the air, and awoke to find herself halfway through the floor. Needless to say, this valley-girl freaked and tried to deny her powers.
Ironically enough, it was Lance who first opened her up to the possibilities her abilities gave her, rather than Jean Grey who the Professor had sent to recruit her. She possesses the ability to walk through walls, etc as well as a nifty bonus of destroying any electronics she happens to walk through.
The relatively brainy Kitty tries to fit in with the rest of the popular girls in her school, but some sour incidents with phys ed classmates all but abandon that hope. Despite it all, the young Jewish girl doesn't give up and remains perky, friendly... and an awful cook.
It's Kitty, of all the X-Men, who is the first to have any sort of friendship with a member of the Brotherhood. She becomes friendly with Lance in her biology class where they bond over stink bombs which soon leads to late night phone calls, which leads to the school dance. As she's roommates with Rogue, it's not difficult to imagine she gets along fairly well simply because Rogue was once a member of the Brotherhood.
She also attracts the attention of fellow X-Man, Kurt Wagner (Nightcrawler), whose advances she rejects simply because his appearance shocked her to begin with. She soon begins to make friends with him, yet seems more interested in Lance rather than the blue furry dude.
In some ways, Kitty has become the unofficial hotline to the Brotherhood if the need arises. Either way, the cheerful girl is always ready to party if need be.
